Spitalfields Community Group

Welcome to the website of Spitalfields Community Group. SCG was founded in 2011 to respresent those who live and work in the Spitalfields and Banglatown ward. We now have over 200 members. We run regular events for our members and campaign on a number of issues that our members tell us are important for the area, often those with a licensing or planning element.

Latest news

26th June. Members are invited to our first ever SCG Walking Tour on Tuesday 28th June starting at 6.30pm. A tour of Spitalfields for Spitalfielders; an experts' guide to the area. Meet outside Christ Church on Commercial Street.

3rd June. Shawarma, 84 Brick Lane, E1 6RL. SCG objected to the application for the supply of late night refreshments on the grounds that the proposed hours (5am daily) are completely excessive and would extend ASB throughout the night. Our objection letter can be read here.

5th May. Many thanks to all members who completed our recent survey. The results will help guide the committee in their actions. You can read the results of the survey here.

10th April. The Bishopsgate Goodsyard developers are reconsidering their plans following the GLA Planning Officer's recommendation that they be rejected by Boris Johnson. Any mayoral hearing is now likely to be held by the new incumbent. An excellent victory for the More Light More Power campaign and the whole community!

But increasingly people are heading East looking for divertissements, new excitements - something fresh, out of the ordinary. And who can blame them? People come to Spitalfields looking for experience that is authentic and true, and Spitalfields seldom disappoints. If West is jaded, East is energized. Isnít this why, after all, we came here in the first place?" Read more
